so that

oh please let it rain today.
so that i can stand
in the rain,
so that i can stand in the water
and feel it running down my face
and down my arms in rivulets.
so that i can stand in the wind
and cold and feel what you must feel
when you look at me,
when you look at me and turn
away from my face
so that you cannot see my tears.
you can convince yourself
it is rain,
it is just the rain,
and it does not hurt.
you can convince yourself that
it does not hurt to gaze into
the sky and feel hard
pellets of rain soaking your eyes,
and that i am not standing next
to you, and that
it is always the rain
and nothing more.
